Creater - College Student
My name is Naomi! I am a military kid that has seen many places, experienced various cultures, and meet the most incredible people (I'll write a novel or a play about it one day, I promise). I am currently a college student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Creative Writing (but don't hold me to that, my decision may change). While I toss back and forth between potential careers, I know one thing for sure: I plan to be involved in science and the arts as much as possible. I have a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) brain, but my heart beats for the liberal arts. I am both inquisitive and creative.
From both RWS courses, I learned a lot about the importance of rhetoric, the writing process, and other concepts of effective communication. I also developed strategies to improve these things. As a writer, I increased my ability to research, assemble, write, annotate, and present information in innovative ways. I gathered that rhetoric is a strategic method of persuasion that is constantly evolving. Writers accomplish strong rhetoric in diverse ways. Some distinct ways include understanding the audience and making sensible connections to them within writing.
My writing process in this class has changed to include more revision, deeper research, and a closer look at who my intended audience is. I also practiced displaying my work using numerous genres. I will use rhetoric to my advantage in the future to improve the quality of my communication. Whether it be in essays, job interviews, novels, or even text messages, I can use the techniques I learned in this class to enhance the presentation of my thoughts.
As I move forward, I would like to further advance my revision skills. A piece of writing tends to upgrade through reconstruction. I also need to continue to enrich my research skills. For the first time in all of my school experience, I actually used the school's library database efficiently. Credible and relevant research is a key component to communication. I believe that all of my work meet the required criteria because I attended class to get instructions, asked questions when necessary, payed very close attention to expectations, and worked diligently.
